Having the right Goals
Goal setting can lead us to amazing things. But inaccurate goal setting can lead us to the wrong outcomes. So, how can we improve our circumstances through effective goal setting?
It’s possible and actually quite plausible that some of us have goals that are wrong for us, just as others don’t have goals at all.
Gandhi said, “We are the product of our thoughts. What we think, we become.” We are the result of our own choices. If we want different results, we need to look at our lives and do something different. But we mustn’t just be different, we must think different!
Let’s start with understanding how a goal should be built. A goal should be S.M.A.R.T.:
- Specific,
- Measurable
- Achievable
- Relevant
- Time-bound
When formulating your goal, you should ask yourself: “Do I have a clear and compelling sense of WHY I want to achieve this? What would happen if I don’t achieve it? How would I feel?” And don’t be afraid to reach out to someone that you trust for the input! This person should be someone that shares the same compelling sense of achievement as you do.
Having a clear goal is like turning on the light at the end of the tunnel. You won’t walk in darkness anymore. That is why we must write down our goals. You can always go back and revisit them, update them and evaluate them, but first, you must go through your list of goals. Do this often to remind yourself of where you are going and to fine-tune the qualities that will get you there.
The transformation starts in your mind, and this is how you regain control of your destiny and become the author of your success. Everything starts with a dream. From a dream grows a plan and with perseverance ends in celebration in our hearts.
Are you ready to make a real change for the coming year? Are you ready to leave 2020 behind with a clear path forward and a vision of what success means to you?
